As I was growing up I often heard stories about my uncle, Sergeant Frederick G. Easley, who was a Tank Destroyer Commander in the 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion during World War II. He was killed in action near Fossieux , France , on Oct 10, 1944. As an adult, I decided to start researching my uncle’s activity during the War. In the course of my research, I encountered numerous people who provided a wealth of information.
My wife and I have decided to make some of this information accessible on the Internet. We are currently in the process of converting the data into a web format and will update this site as we can. The documents on this webpage were provided to us by Earl Cabaniss, who formerly served in the 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion, and are actual After Action Reports and other documents from the War.
Another veteran of the 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Captain Ruggles Baker, provided the photo of my uncle with the 654th and members of the 134th Infantry Regiment entering the city of Nancy , France , on September 15, 1944, the day of that city's liberation. This photo can be seen at the top of this page and enlarged by clicking it with your mouse. I learned later this photo is quite famous in the city of Nancy and is used each year during their liberation celebrations.
